Major Crops grown in the State are Paddy, Wheat, Maize and Jowar among Cereals, Gram, Tur, Urad and Moong among Pulses, while Soybean, Groundnut and Mustard among Oilseeds.
Also commercial Crops like Cotton and Sugarcane are also grown in considerable area in few Districts.
Horticulture Crops Potato, Onion, Garlic, along with fruits like Papaya, Banana, Oranges, Mango and Grapes are also grown in the State . Some area under Medicinal crops and narcotic crops are also grown in the State.
CROPPING PATTERN :-
Madhya Pradesh is predominantly Kharif Crops growing State. Kharif Crops occupies about 54.25 % whereas Rabi Crops occupies about 45.75 % area out of the total cropped area in the State.
About 41 % of cropped area generally occupied by cereal crops, while pulses occupied 21 % area and oilseed occupied about 27 % area. Rest 11 % area is occupied by Vegetables, fruits, fodder and other horticultural crops.
AGRICULTURE PRODUCTION :-
The State is at present producing about 16.0 million tones of food grains ( Comprising Cereals 12.6 million tones and 3.4 million tones of Pulses ) and about 5.7 million tones of total Oilseed (Soybean Production is 4.44 m. tones ).
Thus with these production level the State is Contributing about 7.7 % food grains
( 6.5 % Cereals and 24.29 % Pulses ) in National Kitty. The Contribution in national oilseed Production is about 25.9 %. Thus the State is the highest producer of Oilseed and Pulses in the Country.
