SALIENT FEATURES OF THE MINERAL WEALTH OF THE STATE

  • Sole producer of diamond in the country.  
  • Country's largest opencast copper mine is at MalanjKhand, district Balaghat
  • Thickest coal seam (135m.) of Asia at Singrauli coalfield in Sidhi district.  
  • Major producer of Coal, Limestone, Copper, Diaspore and Pyrophyllite.
  • Second highest cement producing state in the country with 7 major and 3 mini cement plants, producing 14 percent cement of the country.
  • Leading producer of Manganese, Dolomite, Rock-Phosphate,  Glass sand and Fire clay.

The State of Madhya Pradesh  is richly endowed with mineral wealth. It is the sole producer of diamond in the country.  Coal, limestone, manganese ore, bauxite, copper ore, dolomite, fire clay, slatepyrophyllite-diaspore are the main minerals occurring in the State. Besides these minerals, the state is fast emerging as a dimensional stone  producer.The State is blessed with favourable geological and geotectonic settings. Rocks ranging from Precambrian to recent era to accommodate every episode of mineralisation are present. 

In terms of the mineral production the state ranks third next only to Jharkhand and Chhatisgarh.
